2/19 and 2/20 Camp Recap
02-21-2010
WOW! What an incredibly successful weekend of rehearsal. Chesapeake Indoor was finally able to reconvene after 2 camps cancelled due to the back to back blizzards that hit Maryland a few weeks back.
With 2 weeks "off", Chesapeake came back in with a goal and a vengeance to get caught up. The ensemble spent Friday night getting back into the swing of things with exercises and reviewing music for the opener and cleaning the second number. After what seemed like a quick 3 hours, we called it a night and got ready for twelve hours on Saturday.
Saturday started with one goal, first two sections of the show, on the floor, with drill, ensembled. Members and staff knew it was the goal, and no one was settling for less. After a morning stretch and run to get ready, the battery hit the floor to complete the opener. With a frightening efficiency, they roared though the opener drill, getting everyone up to date and comfortable. After a quick musical warmup, they added the music to the drill and quickly it became apparent that this was one hard working group. By noon, the opener was done.
Meanwhile the front ensemble worked through their music, reviewing and making sure they were going to be ready for ensemble after dinner.
Following lunch, our number was increased as we welcomed our drum set player in and began getting him acclimated to our world. Absolutely amazing what one additional voice can add to an ensemble.
While the front ensemble got used to having a drumset, the battery worked on the second number in sectional and together, then moved back to the floor to learn the drill Cameron had developed. With the same intensity they had displayed in the morning, the battery attacked the new drill and learned it in record time. Adding the music went fairly smoothly, and by dinner was ready to add some front ensemble
We started the evening with ensemble music rehearsal, getting everyone ready for the grand finale, full floor ensemble!
Back to the floor, chunk by chunk, section by section, the snow came together. With the instruction of "Last run of the weekend", Chesapeake performed what was the culmination of 15 hours of intense, hard work. At the end, the looks of exhaustion were only outweighed by the looks of accomplishment and pride were overwhelmingly evident.
Next weekend, Chesapeake takes the next big step in our history, our first show! Lower Dauphin High School, Hummelstown, PA; 7:40pm. Come out ans support us, we love cheering sections. Show up early and root on our friends Milton Hershey and Phoenix Indoor, at 6:50 and 7:10 respectively.
Hope to see you there! PEAKE!
